According to the Sanskrit Hindi Dictionary by Vamana Shivarama Apte, the term Varna means colour, description, explanation, interpretation, praise, extension, observation, perception, form, beauty, caste, race, type, genus etc. According to Meghdoot of Kalidas Varna means complexion, form and beauty.
