Chennai buses! Nothing like them. . .

It was a lazy tuesday afternoon and i decided to meet friends to while away time..destination spencers..had fun..gobbled subway sandwich.. And finally decided to head home...that's how pri and me landed up in one of the seemingly less crowded buses at the tvs bus stop..Happy that we were atleast once in a while opting for a cheaper way of getting home, we were blissfully talking stuff bout the fun we had with friends when in a fraction of a second the bus was swelling with people..where did all of them come from??!!!!..there was no time to think..ahhhh!... someone gave me a wonderful push from behind that set me go hittin the rods in the bus.."what in the hell is happening pri," i screamed..Pri was now a few metres away from me and i knew we were stuck amidst a huge crowd of people who wil not mind standing on us throughout the journey! It was only mount road and we were to head to kodambakkam. Not knowing what to do i told pri to pass the money for the ticket as the conductor was kilometres away from us. Whatever said and done i was terrified of inspectors and the humiliation of gettin caught ticketless! But pri looked helpless at me with the cash in her hand. On askin her she said that people were not passing the money towards the conductor, not even the ones who were sitting! That was it..My bp shot up..! With the tamil i knew i blasted everyone in the bus and in seconds money was passin from every hand i saw! Pri congratulated me. Proud of myself i tried to wriggle my way a little more towards pri cos i could see her troubled face from amidst the junglees. Fearing that some loser was digging up at her i asked her what it was but poor pri could not tel but i could see her bp shooting up too! In minutes she let out to the guy next to her in the tamil she knew! Lols... it was me congratulating her now. I told her we were getting down in the next stop. "What bout the tickets da", pri asked innocently. "Damn the tickets", i yelled back. And in the next stop we fought our way out of the bus. We were speeding homewards in an auto in minutes! Chennai buses! nothing like 'em! but pri! hi fi! chow!

This one was my first attempt at writing short stories..Fact and fiction intertwined! Sounds big na! I wrote it for children!

The sound of tinkling bell around the cattle’s neck, the mooing of the cows, the hum of the bees and the rustle of the paddy fields…… cranes flew over the gentle river to spot a fish for food, children played in the fields, farmers worked on their lands , the womenfolk sat on the edges of the field with steel jars containing food for the men folk engaged in talking…. This was our village. Grandpa, grandma, uncle, aunt, Unni and Haritha my cousins and I lived in a big house. There were long verandahs for generous playing, lot of trees to hide behind and many friends to pull up some mischief or the other. My parents worked in the town and often visited us. They bought me a lot of things from the town. I never missed them when they left because I loved grandpa and grandma so much as I loved father and mother. Unni, Haritha and I went to the same school which was just a few yards away from our house. We used to pick unripe mangoes, mash them on a stone and relish them with the happiness that a hardworking farmer got when he ate his food after a hard days work.
Grandpa used to tell us a lot of stories and my favourite one was that of Bhola, a farmer who was never liked by anyone. He was rude to children and indifferent to all others. He did not have anyone of his own, not even a cow or a goat. All he would do was work tirelessly on his field but a barren land would give him nothing. Bhola’s story always sadly. “Serves him right for being rude to children!” exclaimed Unni , Haritha and my friends. But I wondered about Bhola. ‘What could be behind the poor farmer’s behaviour?’ I wondered… I was just eight years old then…..
Now it so happened that a farmer his wife and his son came to live in the street next ours. I was happy to get another friend but I noticed that they did not participate in the general entertainments of the village. The wife was a sweet lady with a peaceful look hung all about her. The son seemed to be two to three years older than me. He had a bland, expressionless face and was always busy with his own work. The farmer, needless to say was a responsible head to the family but I could see he was quite strange and unusual. He never talked to anyone in the village. If any of the children played in his fields he would run after them with huge bamboo sticks. Often he looked at the vast blue sky and murmured something to himself. ‘He is just like Bhola’, I thought.
My interest in this farmer’s behaviour keened due a curiosity in my little heart. I wanted a reason to sympathise with Bhola because I always had the feeling of half eaten meal after listening to Bhola’s story from Grandpa. So I planned to approach the farmer and slowly get the cat out of the bag. I knew there would be some reason behind his odd behaviour. The next day, I set out to meet the farmer with two tender coconuts slung over my little shoulders. I found him working in his fields. I sat down to scrutinize his work. He worked tirelessly. Sweat dripped from his ever-frowning brows. At times, when his sickle ran swiftly against the sowings, due to some strange tension in him, he would stop and look at the blue sky and murmur. ’Strange man’, I told myself. In the afternoon he stopped working to have lunch. By then, I had finished drinking my tender coconut. With the one remaining, I went towards him with a feeling of a hundred butterflies in my stomach. ‘If he talked rudely to me I would just go away promising never to approach him again’, I told myself. As I reached close to him, his back turned to me, I said softly, “Uncle, I live in the street next to yours. I was just passing this way when I saw you working. So I thought that this tender coconut would refresh you, here uncle”, said I thrusting it to him as gently as I could. He saw me but never spoke a word. He did not bother my intervention between his lunch and continued eating. I told myself to go away, but could not let my hopes of befriending the farmer down so early. So I told him” I cant carry it home, I’ll keep it here for you, won’t you have it uncle?”. Now, I thought he got annoyed. He looked at me as though he looked at a pesky rodent in his field. I sensed danger, yet I picked up courage and said, “I know you must be very thirsty, come on uncle, have it for me atleast”. At this he kept his lunch box down, stood up with eyes red in anger and with the sound of hundred demons roared.”JUST GET LOST!!” I don’t know what happened exactly, but I could remember a rolling coconut and a splash! His voice had made me fall into a puddle nearby. I took to my heels promising never to even look at him again.
At home, I sat disappointed. Unni and Haritha asked me what was wrong but I could not let myself down by narrating the war at the fields and how I lost by a splash!. They would tell my friends and I would be a subject of ridicule and laughter. So I asked them to mind their business. But the brutes went and told it all the others at home about the unusualness that was about me. Believe me, cousins can be such brats!’ the rascals’ I scolded. But I never disclosed the war and my idea behind it. Of course there were a lot of reasons for me to be upset. Just two days back my grandpa bought us a jackfruit and I had the lions share. And now the fruit was doing its work in my stomach. And that’s exactly what I told everyone. They were convinced and I heaved a sigh of relief! But I was very disappointed at my failure in the very first approach.
However my determination did not dwindle. I decided to talk to the farmers son, the next day. He just said “oh. We have not been bothering about his behaviour since the time we were with him. There is no use in trying to know why he is like this. Do your work child”. I could see that he lost the interest in his father.’Poor boy’, I thought. But again I was disappointed. Can’t this world feed a child’s curiosity, after all everyone say that it’s a big big world and it would give you everything you want.
There was an old granny sitting beside a churn stone near the farmer’s house and noticed me always whenever I tried to get to know about the farmer. She was too skinny and one could not count her wrinkles on her sagged skin. She chewed beetle leaves and her teeth were coloured red, like the red came out when we mix the brick powder and water. Now she saw that I was too keen on the farmer’s affairs and called me to her. I went reluctantly expecting a,” Can’t you just mind your business”! She asked me to sit on her lap and tell her why I was behind them. “Why should you tell this old women?” asked the voice in me. “She seems friendly and I guess she is your only chance,” said another voice. Convinced with the second voice I told her the whole idea behind the approach to the farmer and his family. I thought she would raise her eyebrows and say it to all her friends (obviously a clan of other skinny and ruined forts!) but she just laughed, probably at my curiosity and told, “Well, I’ll tell you why he is like this.” I was overjoyed and felt like leaping into the air, but nevertheless I sat in sustained manner, deciding to do the leaping after the story is over. The leap of triumph over my curiosity. And the story began, “Long time back when the farmer was quite young had a friend named Ramu. Both of them very good friends. They were always together in everything be it work, or just having fun. They teased the young girls in the village and plucked mangoes for little children, helped old people running errands for them and were always the cynosure among the villagers. It was also a dreaded time for the village because for many years together there were no rains. The villagers offered many poojas to the rain god but the rains never came. There was famine and draught all over the village and many people died due to lack of food. They were all worried because of this.
The farmer and his friend Ramu often prayed together at the village temple and went for long walks in the nights around the fields. One night as they were walking through a field they heard a voice. Both of them looked around them to see where the voice came from, but no one was seen. The voice said that it was the rain god and that he was pleased with their friendship. So he would visit their village from the next day onwards. The two friends leapt in joy, hugged each and shed tears of joy because at the village would be saved. “But” said the voice. “ On one condition, one of you must chant my name thrice by standing in the whirlpool in the river nearby which means one of you must sacrifice your life for it” and the voice went out. Sadness overcame them like a heavy downpour after a gentle breeze. Both of them started crying at the very thought of parting each other. But they thought about the village and the number of people who were dying day by day due to lack of rains. They decided that one of them would sacrifice his life. But neither of them would let go off the other. After a lot of yes’ and no’s it was decided that the farmer would go to the river at dawn and stand in the whirlpool and chant the rain god’s thrice thus bringing rains to the village. Both of them wept their heart out together and parted. While parting Ramu looked into the farmer’s eyes and said, “We will meet as friends like now in the next birth”. Those words created an impact on the farmer and he pondered about it all through the night. He was happy to sacrifice his life for Ramu who loved him so much. (Tears streamed from his eyes as he thought of the time which was running fast to separate him from his dearest friend…). He thought of the lovely days they spent together. They shared their joys and sorrows and helped each other when needed.
The next dawn, the farmer woke up to the sounds of heavy down pour. He was amazed and happy at the same time. The whole village was celebrating. All were jubilant and joyous and were dancing in the rain. The farmer’s happiness knew no bounds. He was overjoyed at the thought that the rain god was pleased and did not want a life to be sacrificed. He rushed to meet his friend, but could find him nowhere. He enquired at all possible places but in vain. Just then a saddening thought struck him. He ran with pounding heart towards the whirl in the river. His friend’s turban lay on a stone nearby. Wet, as the mark of their friendship. He prayed to the earth to swallow him up at that moment, he prayed it should be a dream, but there he stood feeling the heavy rain lash upon his senseless skin. He could not take the shock of his lost friend. He knelt down with his face buried in his hands and wept. The tears from his eyes and the rain merged together. He looked at the dark sky and said, “We will meet as friends like now in the next birth”…
“And that’s why he is like this my child. Nature took away his priceless possession and he could not stop it by any means. God always chooses the good to do something useful for the world, and the reality is that it is always the good who remain unhappy. But it is on them that the stories are told and written and histories are made. They sacrifice themselves for a cause. They give a chance for others to live happily sacrificing their own” I did not leap in triumph. I did not cry. I did not thank granny for relieving me off my curiosity. I sat fixed to the ground. The granny went on, “You must always remember to cherish the life given to you by god, because you may not know when life may end. Now, go my child your people must be searching for you. It’s past noon”. I ran away to the fields where the farmer was working. Now tears were flowing down my cheeks. My eyes were red and I could scarcely see anything because the tears blurred my vision. The farmer worked swiftly and I could now feel what he felt. Suddenly it started raining. I felt nature was crying with me. My tears and the rain merged. I was soaked but I did not move. The farmer looked at the dark sky and exclaimed. “We will meet as friends like now in the next birth”. I burst out crying. I could now find a reason to sympathise with Bhola …. I could now say a story to Unni, Haritha and all my friends …. Stories within a story….!

Yawn...Saturday morning... but my phone woke me up..Catchy message..nevertheless i went back to sleep!

If you love someone because you think that he or she is handsome or gorgeous then its not love..Its "infatuation"
If you love someone because you think that you should not leave them cos others think you should not leave them then its not love..Its "compromise"
If you love someone because they have touched or even kissed you then its not love..Its "inferiority complex"
If you love someone because you cannot leave them thinking that it would hurt their feelings then its not love..Its "charity"
If you love someone just because you share everything with them then its not love..Its f"riendship"
BUT. . .
If you feel the pain of the other person more than them even when they don't show it to you and you pray for them that's "love"
Even if you admire other people but stay with them without any regrets then that's "love"
Understand love before "rising" not "falling" in it cos true love cannot make you fall!

The lonely girl! Guys all these were written when i was in school, probably in the 8th or 9th grade..Im wondering what was wrong! lol!

Long long ago, So long ago,
There was a girl, a pious girl was she,
Swimming in the sea of pain,
Pain of both heart and soul,
No loving touch caressed her,
No sweet words consoled her,
All she knew was to weep,
Weep her heart out to nobody but herself.
Everyone around her were happy for her,
They did not see the pain in her eyes.
The leaves touched her with kind gestures,
But to her it was only a sting,
The little bee asked her what was wrong,
but she had no words to him,
She wept and wept her heart out,
And one day she was never heard of again. . .

Ok now i remember..! this one was for a forlorn friend of mine..Class 9 B! How could i forget?!!

Nature's message!

As the day dawned and the birds began to chirp,
The glorious sun came out of his temporary hide,
Bathing the blue sky with his fumes of orange.
Never was there a sight so beautiful,
Never was there a time so blissful.
My thoughts went deep into my heart,
Life was after all beautiful,
To end it soon would be foolishness.
My first thoughts were emotional,
The second was reasonable,
But i knew that the true course was in the midst.
My thoughts went deep. . .

The girl's destiny. . .

The search still continues,
For the most rare thing. . .
Cos without it my heart,
Is a burning piece.
Never felt nor heard,
Neither sought or given,
All my life a debris of pain,
People love me, but my love
For them turns stale when it reaches them.
The search still continues,
For that rare thing. . .
I've always sought it in me,
The perfect destiny,the perfect solitude,
But neither man is patient, nor is God.
It lies vast around me,
About myself but not in my reach,
The search still continues,
For that rare thing . . .

My reaction against junglees who cut the nice huge trees in our compound..! I guess i was in class 8 or 9..

My Friends!
I stood helpless as i watched the cruel men,
Kill my only friends in this wide world,
Along with them were killed the chirping ones,
Now, only the dusty roads were visible.
How i longed to see them swaying,
In response to the gentle wind,
Filled with the squeaks of little squirrels
And the smalll birds that keep flying about.
Sure enough man has a heart of stone,
Who blames his fate for the tricks it plays,
He does not know that god blesses those,
Who love thy and his creations.
I shed copious tears but in vain,
The men looked upon me with green eyes,
I wil never curse them,
Because they only did their work,
And god shall repay the most cruel ones!

I was dowm with jaundice when i was in the ninth grade and even then i could not be without clutching my pen!

The search of the sick!
As the misty evening turned into a starlit night,
I sat with the very pale face as in the morning,
The lush of fever made the very sweetest breeze,
chill and rattle my weak bones.
I sat there, sighing a deep breath,
Through my window i could see the lovely moon,
Wavering midst the stars,
Sure enough the clouds were hovering above him.
I asked him if he was ill too,
But he only hid himself behind the fluffy clouds.
I could see the children play,
Their laughter, a crackle of happiness,
It was only me, the sick girl with red cheeks,
The chosen one to get ill..
But now the sights delighted me,
And i was now fast asleep, with the sweeteast dreams. . .

This must have been written in any of the classes for sure..!

My dream!
As i entered the commodious heaven,
There dwelled several cascades of dazzling beauties,
Of tiny fairies and handsome princes!
The rancour of mine to the world,
Slowly vanished as if in a magical spell,
I stood flabbergasted,
At the long vine creepers,
That were refreshingly green,
It remained blotted in my mind,
Never showing signs to leave,
The lovely lilly and the glorious jasmine,
Their waft of perfume that was indelible.
As i entered deep into this world,
I discovered Thee's best of all creations.
The myriad birds and the little chick's wink!
The limpid green eyes of the little cat,
The lake of honey and the cottage of cakes!
I knew i would never forget,
All of my life the inexplicable dream of mine!
I am sure i was getting bored and HUNGRY wherever i was when i wrote this!

This was written after some fight that happened at school..Don remember which grade i was in..Lekin kya feelings yaar! Lols!

My sorrows!
For the past few days, I've thought,
Why cruelty comes only to me,
For my heart cries for little things,
Which i cannot tel why.
In loneliness i find peace,
For in company i feel ignored,
Something sorrowful and painful,
Which i cannot tell why.
Every dog has its day, i've heard,
When will that day come for me?
For i am waiting to be happy,
On a day when my wrath subdues to peace.
Feelings are to be tolerated,
And not to be expressed, i've thought,
For that expression puts me down even more,
Which i cannot tell why.
I have been exceptional till now,
Cos i never control my emotions, its not possible!
Cruelty which amuses is bad,
But when felt and hurt i feel good.
My mind still flutters here and there,
Amidst the strong winds of sorrows,
And my heart still cries for little things,
Which i cannot tell why. . .

Star starer at the age of 14! Don get ideas guys!

The twinkling stars!
Nothing can be so bright,
To fill the night sky with so much light,
Nothing can be so exquisite,
To make us all so inquisitive,
On how these celestial beings,
Seem so wonderful and illuminating.
Like dust dust darted from heaven,
They filled the night with their magic!
I stood on my terrace wondering
Who gave them the sheen
As to where they came from,
I knew the lovely moon shared his light with them!
They seemed to be shivering,
Amidst the cool breeze,
But poor me could not keep them warm!.
Like tiny fairies with light on wings,
Like tiny dots on a vast sheet of darkness,
The gaze gave me peace,
And i wished for happiness too.
Love these twinkling things
Who guide our way through the night!

This one was written when i was in the tenth grade.

My friend!
I found in her, as in mine,
That illusion of loveliness,
She dispelled the erroneous notion,
That friends won't cry with you.
She consoled with great understanding,
With a friendly approach and a sweet smile,
Beauty was her power,
And her smile was her sword!
She cared for me, when i was sick,
Those soft spoken words relieved me,
Of pain and scare which were in me throughout,
She was my sole companion
In my hard times.
Indeed i am lucky
To have such a good friend.
God and me are friends now,
Cos it was he who gave her to me.

This one was writtten by me when i was in the tenth grade for mum.. She was down with illness and had to be hospitalised for several days..missed her!

My mother
How many lonely days i spent,
Without you beside me i slept,
Without you dear mum,
I now walk alone,
No one to share my joys and sorrows.
To whoever be it, but to a mum it is someting special,
I know you are in pain,
And that pains me more,
Cos i am helpless.
As i walk in the evenings,
I remember your tired face,
Yet with all smiles,
As the waves dash the rocks,
I remember your laugh,
A room in my heart is always open,
For you dear mum.
With you I find peace!
With you I find happiness!
Dear mum, when will you be back?
I wait and wait and wait. . . . . .

This one was written by me when i was in the fifth grade! In maths class. . .!

The running stream!
There was a once a running stream,
Which came to me upon a dream,
The waves took gentle pleats of silver,
And i stood there speechless forever,
It took the green colour of trees,
In which were fallen abundant leaves,
Through rocks and sand it took it way,
Beside where the cows and goats graze,
It then slashed on from high rocks,
When suddenly i got the shocks,
Only to realise it was a dream,
To say, it was topped with a cherry and cream!
I remember i was sent out of class when my teacher discovered that i was writing poems instead of algebra! From then on i have regularly written poems in maths classes! I had no other way to escape them!

This was written by me when i was in class four. Was getting bored in painting class!

The setting Sun
The sun sets down,
And we all look up again,
To see the bright setting sun.
The blue sky bathes itself,
With the rays of the setting sun.
So red is the sky and so exquisite,
Is that sight!
So beautifully the sun slithers,
Behind the snowy mountains,
Until the stars fill the dark sky
And we all fall into deep slumber
Where everything is peaceful and quite again!

This one was written by me when my cousin was born!

My sister
I like her face,
Like the full moon grace.
I like her eyes,
Like twinkling stars.
I like her smile,
Like the smile of a flower.
I like her name,
Meaning the green flourished land!
I like her innocent heart,
Like the blossom in a garden.
I like her beauty
Like an angel child of heaven.
I love her so much,
For she gives me a place in her heart!
Guys don flick this to give it to ur gal friends ok!:-D

This one was written by me when i was in class three..hee hee!

My doll
Have you ever seen a doll?
Forever naughty and so small,
She is artificial yet looks so natural,
Her body is made of cotton,
Arms and legs of plastic,
Hair so brown and eyes so blue,
She smiles when laid down,
And makes me feel so cool.
She can sleep and play,
She can sing and even dance!
She has a pretty blue frock
All blue and lots of white flowers,
And shoes and socks too,
She is as pretty as ever,
For she is my dear doll forever!

Why...?

I've always wondered why only a few friends get close to my heart,
I've wondered why i love only certain colours,
I've wondered why only few snaps in a big album get those stares and broad smiles,
I've wondered why i like to hear some special songs a hundred times,
I've wondered why i like only certain outfits which makes me stare at myself for hours,
I've wondered why certain thoughts brighten up my low spirits,
I've wondered why . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Cos only few things and few people are destined to touch the strings of our hearts and make our lives beautiful,
And it is only when we lose them that we realise how beautiful our lives were when they were there in our lives!

When can i get there?

I see you from here..
Every second, every minute,
The days pass,
The distance makes me yearn more
Is that tip where oceans meet?
Or where rocks explode?
Or flowers bloom when i smile?
My will shall be done or. . .?
Even if not why would i be here?
The difference lies in attaining you from the place i love to be
What am i thirsty of..I know and god knows..So its not a secret
Cos its for him that i do everything
Sometimes you are just before me
Other times i have to force myself to slumber
Its not a strain to strive for a glimpse of you..
The palm tree's top sways with open arms
I shiver when your breeze touches me
I get warmth here that comforts me
But i long for you...
I will get you someday..some day when i am done with everything!

Surprising....

I just went to the temple and got back..My parents were surprised that i came as fast as i left..I had taken only five mins in place of twenty! I realised that i dint interact much at the temple today..All what i felt was the peace that hung about its walls and the smell of turmeric and sandalwood and incense sticks and the sight of lovely flowers..white, yellow, green and pink. Just went around like a supervising officer and came back! Well its not only my parents who were surprised, i too was....!..Dont have much to tell the idols there..but to myself! A Theerthayaatra. . .

Today it was an ebbing of sadness within me...As i walked home from college i found myself drifting away from the reality of this world..Where was i and what was i doing amidst all these thousands of people who are trying to rob me of my life?! It was time i travelled alone using no tickets..at no costs..without limits...without boundaries..with only the end in mind. At first i felt like flinging the chalangai that i took out after months..dust had gathered on it and the leather had almost torn off symbolising the many performances i gave..the redness of the althaa was on the belts which was a mark of my anxiety before a performance..the anxiety to be the best..the cynosure amongst all..How foolish i had been to think of my knowledge in complete ignorance??!! the tinkle of the four rows of heavy bells seemed to echo the past into me. It resonated the humiliation i suffered with a smile on my lips and a tune in my tongue. It resonated the hardwork and love which got rejected at the fraction of a second on that horrible day..But when i weighed it in my hands i felt the relationship not letting me go..! How could this old affair be renewed? What would it think of me who once abandoned it and set out to face the world in a mood of frenzy? And the irony of it..did the vent help? Did i feel satisfied? Did i feel at ease? I realised that the grip held stronger on me after abandoning and i guess it happens with every relationship in this world..provided its true love..attachment..committment devoid of the limits of time, space, influence, age and new entries. Tightened by the knots of this affair and not being able to withstand the choking i decided i must give in..a total submission..a complete surrendering of the body, mind and soul. For i knew i could not breathe anymore without it..The foot hit the ground but this time not with arrogance instead it was with humility seeking the apologies and blessings of Bhoomi devi . The jathis seemed to render to me a different kind of a revelation..The art form triumphed and set its power on me in full control..The sweat dripped moistening every dry cell and tissue in me ..I loved the new dampness..It was meaningful and energising..a refreshment from the mundane activities that i tried engaging myself in, all these days. The pushpanjali, the alaarippu, the krishna padam, the natesha kauthuvam, the jatiswaram, the shiva thaandavam, the varnam, and the surutti thillana..It was a feast to the mind and soul and body..It was a rejoicing to them, an experience of turning over a new leaf..Now the tears welled up..for which i had been struggling for seconds, days, weeks and for months. The rasas took control of my heart, which was all these days, only a pump to set to work a lifeless machine. The emotions sringara, karuna, bheebadsa, bhayanaka, roudra, hasya, veera, adbhuta and shaanta passed to me the rope to pull at a new life, with ease and with happiness and satisfaction. At last i fell to the floor and got up with new crutches, that were invisible to this world! I had gone on a theerthayaatra. . .

Behind every cloud there is a silver lining!!!

Home at last!!!!!!! Just came home after a tedious journey..cramped up in a general compartment full of people..I was the only girl but i dint feel lonely..however there were a group of junglees(obviously guys!) who were freakin the hell out..they seemed to have apetite for every kind of food that passed us in the hands of vendors..biriyani, cutlets, sweet meats, soft drinks, tea, coffee, chocolates, biscuits, variety rice, paan, and the list might just go on forever...! I was wondering if there was any mastification that was going on in them...! I was ill cos of the dinner last nite and wondered whether i would reach home alive...I just sat uprite for almost nine hours continuously without changing positions and by the time i got out of the train i felt i dint have a vertebral column! Oh gosh the getting out was another happening thing..as soon as the train reached the station at Chennai men, women and children got into the train like a swarm of bees and we were stuck in between not knowing what to do..I remained unaffected cos i just had to stand with my luggage and i was gloriously carried out of the train and put onto the platform by the maddening crowd..India rocks and of course my dad rocks too! He thinks i am superhuman to board a general compartment full of guys and find my way home!!! Well ... lets face it ...with guys around every gal has to become super human..ooops! lol!
Now lets get into the crux of this blog..I had thought that the rain would spoil the whole trip but fortunately it was raining only within the portals of my good 'ol Chennai! Coimbatore welcomed the four of us very pleasantly who undertook the risk of going there amidst the mad rain.It was 5 in the morning when we reached there and the chill breeze shook every muscle and bone within me...(not the others) That's pleasant enough guys..! We had a timid boy with us in the train who moved his limbs to our friend's whims( obviously cos she looked good) and he took the responsibilty to put us in an auto. We found our way to the place our bus waited for us. Our bus was there..empty and eagerly waiting so we decided to take coffee. We had coffeee from a potti kadai kind of a unit! lol! It was fun..the four of us early in the morning havin coffee in a strange place amidst milkmen and paper boys! We then boarded the bus which had seating for bout forty people and only we four were there! The rest of them who boarded the bus after us were two wrinkled and withered living beings and two big fat bulls..The bus was full with the eight of us! There was a medical shop just a lil ahead and there was a general commotion regarding its name and stuff..shhh girls talk! lol! The bus breezed through the town and i found it to be like Kerala..Broad landscapes..full of greenery, clean air that in one inhale u almost feel refreshed for a lifetime, tile roofed houses and rain like snow every ten mins..(That was no rain at all when compared to Chennai's rain that would be like stones pelted against us)...! We reached Karunya university in 45 mins and i was wrapped in my zebra quilt ( i call it that way) even when i got off the bus! And we went through a lot of embarrassing encounters with the receptionists at the guest house which is not worth mentioning. We got our rooms and got settled..Had a shower, dressed up, had breakfast at the university restaurant which was simply superlative horrible!
The conference began. I liked our chief guest Dr.Chellappan's speech..i sribbled some of his thoughts in my notepad like a spider which ran on my paper after fallin in an inkpot...People were already noticing my attractive friend and i was sooo glad for her and myself...! In fact there was one dumbass ( the convenor of the conf, which i came to know later!) who came to my married friend with an alliance for her...Globalisation i guess!! I was the only junior among all the 275 participants mostly consisting of mphil research scholars, senior profs and lecturers and i came to terms with the fact that i was just a drop in the vast ocean of knowledge that almost sunk me. However i saw that i exhibited more interest than my freinds..They had come to Coimbatore for other reasons than the conf! As for me i had no choice cos i had no business there and i was glad i dint have a choice cos the sessions were very interesting..I like the one bout stylistics and bout computer based teaching methods.
Lunch was also superlative worse and we gulped down whatever was put on our plates. I met a lot of important people..interacted with them bout many issues and learnt a lot..Surprisingly there were famous lawyers and doctors(medical!) who confessed that their first love was literature and that they are still not able to get out of the affair! (pooh! to al those who feel literature is nothing!). There were the blue mountains which showed off its grandeur and put us to shame by its beauty. The mist and the fog were al there but my project was also there rising steadily amidst the fog and the mist in the blue mountains. Blues from the blue mountains..So that dint help. There were different kinds of birds and plants in the campus which offered some assistance in brightening my spirits. Several controversies arose in several occasions and that added to the discomfort. But the certificate at the end of the conference brightened my spirits the most! We had gone for walks in the campus at nite and had ice cremas in the bitter cold! And we freaked when we went outta cash (lol! that was the best part) and at last found home in my relative's place. Bout the part being best... we were deciding what jobs to take up cos of our financial crisis..one would clean toilets..one would wash vessels at the restaurant we had that wonderful food..one would resort to beggin..the best of all..and finally one would loot the bank! lol! From my relative's place we parted..my friend and myself..she to Ooty and myself back home. The other two jumped off the university campus walls early in the morning on the second day of the conference and fund their way to the woods in Ooty. I remember the two of us were stil sound asleep in our beds when they whispered a bye after packing and made good their way! The evening before the day i was to leave Coimbatore i went around exploring the nooks and corners of Coimbatore with my relatives! I could not stick certain things but yeah life is not a bed of roses and so yeah! And then came womanhood reminding me that life is a challenge..and of course the illness that shook my veins in the chillness of the early morning as i boarded the train and the freaks who were in my coupe and the long journey and...... HMMMMM ....! However there was a silver lining behind the dark clouds that seemed to appear and disappear at intervals!
Not a bad trip at all i guess????!!! Chow!
